t is clear that for a

considerable time to come, the fact

that Government salaries in Hong Kong

are payable both in sterling and in

dollars will create problems which do

not appear to admit of any really

satisfactory solution. I request

therefore that consideration be given

to the practicability of putting the

present sterling salaries on a dollar

basis, in view both of the difficulties

to which the present situation gives

rise in Hong Kong, and of the strong

desirability on general grounds that
